During this workshop we will focus on when to use illustration in SBCC work, the rationale for procuring high quality, contextual SBCC illustration, and we will walk through an intentional process to engage illustrators.
Print media-curriculums, posters, billboards, handouts -is a common SBCC messaging strategy. Good design often means using images not only to aid comprehension, but also for engagement. Graphic materials are more easily put to use.
Strong illustrations in lower literacy settings are especially important because they are not just supportive, they have to carry the social and behavior change message. While illustrations can be a powerful tool for learning, when they are not deeply rooted in context, they may not only hinder communication, but may also cause harm.
Illustrating Change will introduce simple tools and ideas to support thinking through visual design and working with illustration (and illustrators). The workshop will give participants a chance to apply learning by evaluating and discussing a range of illustrations. We will work through and provide a creative brief template to apply these principles outside the workshop.
