Digital health tools offer great potential for behavior change but often fall short when they fail to meet the diverse, evolving needs of their audience. When time and budget are limited, how can we ensure that technology truly represents the user's voice and give them a meaningful say in the resulting solution?
To address this challenge, Reach Digital Health and partners from the University of Cape Town's Perinatal Mental Health Project (PMHP) and the Department of Computer Science adapted a standard Design Sprint approach. The resulting "Concept Lab" five-day sprint focused on ensuring that a proposed WhatsApp chatbot (which used storytelling to help build empathic care skills amongst public sector health workers) resonated with the audience both in terms of the content, design and technology choices.
This successful methodology offers a cost-effective way to rapidly test a prototype's feasibility, bringing designers, developers, and target users together.
This skills-building workshop will take participants through every step of the Concept Lab process. Participants will learn a practical, low-cost method to directly embed user voices and experiences into the design.
By employing this approach, you will be empowered to quickly and easily test new SBCC chatbot ideas, knowing that your design is aligned with users' interests and needs.
