Guided Tour of Soberanía National Park

Session Information

Guided Tour of Soberanía National Park – Plantation Trail

Participants will have the opportunity to take a guided tour of Soberanía National Park, one of Panama's most emblematic protected areas and internationally recognized for its extraordinary biodiversity.

The tour will take place along the Plantation Trail, which has been recently rehabilitated and is especially suitable for groups. This trail is 6.7 kilometers (4.2 miles) long in one direction; however, visitors may walk as far as they wish, completing an out-and-back hike according to their preferences and physical condition.

During the visit, participants will be able to observe a great diversity of flora and fauna. The trail is known as one of the best birdwatching sites, where species such as trogons, tanagers, toucans, flycatchers, and woodcreepers can be seen. It is also possible to spot mammals such as agoutis, peccaries, and solitary cats (jaguarundis), as well as primates including howler monkeys, tamarins, and white-faced capuchins.

The tour is subject to weather conditions. In case of heavy rain, the tour may need to be canceled.

The trail is considered to have a low to moderate level of difficulty, as it does not include significant elevation changes and the SBCC Summit. Transportation by shuttle is covered to and from the Panama Convention Center (PCC); however, participants are responsible for arranging their own transportation to the PCC and back to their accommodations. We recommend using the Uber app.

Recommendations for participants:

  • Wear light and comfortable clothing suitable for outdoor walking, as temperatures in June typically range between 26–32°C (79–90°F) with high humidity levels characteristic of tropical rainforest conditions.

  • Bring closed-toe shoes appropriate for hiking or walking.
  • Bring a reusable water bottle filled with water to stay hydrated.

  • Apply insect repellent and sunscreen.
  • Bring a hat or cap and, if possible, binoculars for wildlife observation.
  • It is recommended to carry a rain jacket in case of rain.

Limited spots available:

This special tour can accomodate 40 people total.

Times:

  • Meet and register at the Panama Convention Center (PCC): 2:00 p.m.

  • Leave the PCC in a shuttle organized by the SBCC Summit: 2:30 p.m.

  • Guided Tour: 3:00-5:00 p.m. approx.
