Disability Inclusive Social and Behaviour Change

Session Information

We know that people with disabilities across the world, especially women and girls, continue to experience significant discrimination and exclusion based on stigma, negative stereotyping, and other societal and systemic barriers.By mainstreaming disability inclusion in Social and Behaviour Change, we can strengthen our impact by engaging those left behind the furthest. Disability inclusive SBC means placing inclusion at the heart of SBC to ensure that a diverse range of people with disabilities are able to practise behaviours that positively influence their lives. It ensures SBC practitioners and policy makers consider the range and diversity of people who experience disability, such as those who experience both visible and hidden impairments and other identities based on a person's gender, age, ethnicity, displacement status, income level, humanitarian crisis, and other factors. With a deeper understanding of the complex societal and behavioural barriers faced by people who are furthest left behind we can facilitate a diversity of ideas and enable more creative and accessible solutions. Inclusive SBC can result in more impactful activities and outcomes for people with disabilities in all their diversity and ensure their equal rights and access to services.
