Cinematic Storytelling as Policy Advocacy: Youth-Driven Media for Democratizing Space Governance

Multimedia Showcase 11:15 AM - 12:30 PM (America/Panama) 2026/06/25 16:15:00 UTC - 2026/06/25 17:30:00 UTC
Who has the right to speak about space security? Currently, only diplomats, scientists, and military strategists participate in space governance discussions at forums like UNIDIR-yet billions of people interact with satellite infrastructure daily without realising they are space stakeholders. From GPS navigation to satellite internet, mobile payments to weather forecasts, space systems govern our daily lives through treaties we've never heard of.
This multimedia presentation showcases my award-winning video "Press Briefing 2050: The Fragility of Space Law Enforcement", which earned me selection as one of four global youth winners at the 2025 UNIDIR Outer Space Security Conference in Geneva. The video demonstrates how cinematic storytelling can democratize participation in technical policy spaces by making complex space security concepts accessible and compelling to non-expert audiences.
Using a fictional 2050 press conference format, the video dramatises the enforcement gap in current space law. A policy official addresses journalists about enforcement challenges despite decades of space treaties. Through this cinematic roleplay, I propose the Orbital Compliance Verification Protocol featuring autonomous orbital audits and an International Space Sanctions Tribunal.
This presentation argues that communication about space security is not just a resource for policymakers-it is a right for the billions whose daily lives depend on satellite services. By using accessible storytelling formats (cinematic narrative, press conference drama), the video illustrates how creative media can be a tool for justice, expanding participation in technical governance beyond elite circles.

Assemble the Healthy Rangers! Using Pop Culture and Comics to Power Up Health Awareness

Multimedia Showcase 11:15 AM - 12:30 PM (America/Panama) 2026/06/25 16:15:00 UTC - 2026/06/25 17:30:00 UTC
Healthy Rangers universe is a creative communication initiative that blends pop culture storytelling with public health education. Inspired by the Power Rangers universe, it features five cat heroes who represent important health themes: nutrition, healthy lifestyle, primary healthcare, mental health, and environmental protection.
Conventional health approaches often use one-way information delivery, which raises awareness but rarely sustains engagement without emotional or social connection (Noar & Harrington, 2012; Wakefield et al., 2010). Healthy Rangers tackles this by using storytelling, humor, and character-driven narratives to make health messages engaging and relatable.
The initiative uses digital comics, animation, merchandise and interactive quizzes to help audiences identify with the Rangers based on shared health values and behaviors. Parents reported positive changes in their children's habits after watching the animation. One mother shared that her child enjoyed the animation storyline and now avoids sugary drinks and favors drinking water.
Healthy Rangers targets younger audiences primarily aged 8–25, who are at a crucial stage for forming lifelong health habits. Children and adolescents respond well to visual storytelling (Sabri et al., 2024; Philippine Journal of Science, 2015), and older youth can spread these messages through their networks of peers.
The cat characters, developed entirely by CISDI's creative team and based on a real office cat, connect deeply with Indonesian audiences, 47% of whom own a cat (Rakuten Insight, 2021). Through entertainment, education, and storytelling, Healthy Rangers translates evidence-based health messages into more accessible, inclusive, and culturally resonant formats, empowering younger audiences to help build a healthier generation.

The Sooner, The Bigger (Quanto Mais Cedo, Maior): The Power of Mass Media, Real Testimonials, and Multi-Platform Strategy to Achieve Equity and Transform Caregiving Practices in Low-Income Families

Multimedia Showcase 11:15 AM - 12:30 PM (America/Panama) 2026/06/25 16:15:00 UTC - 2026/06/25 17:30:00 UTC
This panel presentation highlights Quanto Mais Cedo, Maior (QMCM), a highly successful SBCC initiative created by the Maria Cecilia Souto Vidigal Foundation. This edutainment series aims to elevate awareness and shift caregiving practices (Affection and Bonding) within low-income families (Classes C, D, and E) in Brazil. The multimedia product is distinguished by its scale and integration: the 10-episode series, hosted by Dr. Drauzio Varella, who manages Brazil's largest Health YouTube channel with over 4 million subscribers, was also broadcast on Latin America's largest TV network, TV Globo, reaching a cumulative audience of 180 million people. Additionally, a printed Magazine was launched to reinforce territorial outreach. Impact was assessed via a pre- and post-exhibition questionnaire (5-6 week interval) in a final sample of 827 respondents. Results showed a significant increase of 4.9 percentage points (pp) in awareness regarding affection and bonding. QMCM exemplifies the use of mass communication as a right that democratizes access to essential information, aligning perfectly with the summit's theme of Inclusion and Equity.
